There are many myths surrounding autism that have been perpetuated through social media and word of mouth. Often, behind the myths, there is a grain of truth that can be uncovered and explain why the myth evolved.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Clarify what is true and what is false behind common autism beliefs, including causes of autism and when autism can be diagnosed
- Discuss the research behind how autism presents differently in different individuals, looking at current prevalence rates by race and gender
- Compare and contrast the various language development trajectories in autistic individuals across the spectrum, with a look at how many children regress and how many use echolalia.
- Analyze the evidence and uncover the lack of evidence behind various autism treatment methods
