Our Programs
Everyone In: Afterschool Program
The Everyone In afterschool program enables special needs children to attend traditional afterschool programs by providing one-on-one recreation assistants that help them participate in activities. The primary objective of this program is to facilitate social interactions between special needs children and their typically developing peers. This promotes understanding, decreases isolation, and fosters the idea that everyone has a place within our community. It’s our hope that, as they grow into adulthood, children can mature with a model of inclusion.
How does it work?
1) With the assistance of UCPGG, parents or guardians are approved for our services through their designated regional center.
2) Parents identify an afterschool program that meets their family’s needs (i.e. comfort level, work schedule, etc.) and enroll their child.
3) With assistance from UCPGG, parents choose a person to serve as their child’s recreation assistant.
4) UCPGG provides the background screening/testing and hires the recreation assistant.
What are people saying about this program?
“DJ is happy! Their aide is able to educate the other children about their disability and they are accepting of DJ. It’s also a safety issue; I know he’s okay. I can now increase my hours at work and know that DJ is safe.”
– Everyone In Parent
“UCPGG has given parents an opportunity they weren’t always afforded in the past – school site childcare. Recreation assistants provide the support children need to integrate and fully participate in programs and activities.”
– Mark DeMuri, Kids First Program Manager, New Haven School District

What does it cost?
UCPGG pays for the recreation assistant. The participating family is only responsible for the standard costs of the afterschool program they choose.

Who is eligible?
Preschoolers and children in kindergarten through 8th grade, who are clients of the Regional Center of the East Bay or any of the regional centers, and who reside in Alameda, San Francisco, Contra Costa, or Marin county.
