United Cerebral Palsy of the Golden Gate Hosts the West Coast’s Largest Holiday Party for Children with Disabilites

November 30, 2009

The ultimate holiday experience for special needs kids.

For the seventh year in a row, UCP of the Golden Gate (UCPGG) will host their Ultimate Holiday Party for special needs children from throughout the Bay Area. UCPGG began hosting this unique holiday event in an effort to help families with special needs children provide adaptive toys for the holidays. During the past six holiday seasons, UCPGG has provided over $200,000 in adaptive toys to special needs children in San Francisco, Alameda, Marin, and Contra Costa counties. Although this event began as an effort to provide adaptive toys as a way to bring attention to the challenges families face trying to find them, it has blossomed into an annual holiday celebration where special needs children and their siblings can equally share in the holiday spirit. As one of the parents who attended last year’s event so aptly stated, “Jose gets to see kids like him and realize that he’s not alone.”

This year’s event promises to be the largest ever, with over 225 special needs children and their families scheduled to attend. In addition to food, music, entertainment, and a special visit from Santa and his Raiderette elves, we are proud to announce that Barrango, Inc. (http://www.barrango.com), a South San Francisco based company which has designed and manufactured extravagant holiday displays for shopping malls, hotels, and amusement parks around the world since 1906, will help transform the Jewett Ballroom at the Oakland Marriott into a spectacular holiday wonderland. “For 100 years, Barrango has provided the holiday spirit for children young and old all over the world. We are extremely pleased to bring that same holiday joy to these special children and the UCP holiday event this year,” says Pamela Barrango. The Best Buy, Inc. Geek Squad (http://www.geeksquad.com) will be in attendance again this year to set up and operate electronic gaming stations that will allow our guests with a wide range of physical abilities and their parents to discover the benefits and possibilities that electronic gaming provides to children with physical challenges.
